JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Board of Education met on Tuesday evening, re-electing Jeffrey Miller as chairman and Jamie Wheeler as the vice chairman for the board. This is Miller’s third time serving as a board chairman. He has served on the school board for the past eight years and was just re-elected for his third term.
In other business, the BOE also voted in approval to hold a monthly workshop in addition to its monthly meetings.
Workshops will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. beginning with October 6th.
At the start of Monday’s meeting, Ryne Cummins nominated Jeffrey Miller, while Crystal Creekmore seconded this motion.
Brandon Johnson nominated Randy Heatherly while newly elected board member Chris Honeycutt seconded this motion. The motion to elect Heatherly as chairman failed, with Miller being elected.
Creekmore nominated Jamie Wheeler as vice chairman and Johnson seconded that motion. No other nominations were made for vice chairman, with members voting Wheeler as vice chairman.
Miller said he was “humbled” and would do his best to serve. He also thanked both the people of the first district and the board for their vote, saying it was an honor and a privilege to get re-elected to the school board and elected as chairman.
“I appreciate their confidence in me. This is a very important position, and I am deeply honored and gratified to serve; I have a servant’s heart and that’s the way I always lead,” Miller said.
He said the school board “had a great team in place and an awesome school director that was working hard and the sky was the limit.”
“There’s vision around here, we’re looking ahead at the future,” Miller said.
Miller also announced committee chairmen at Tuesday’s meeting. Chairman of the budget and finance committee is Randy Heatherly, building committee chairman is Ryne Cummins, Policy committee chairman is Jamie Wheeler, Safety Committee chairman is Lisa Fields, Facilities Planning chairman is Brandon Johnson and Athletic Committee chairman is Ronnie Lasley.
“With a workshop, I think that is going to help … we have a lot of things coming down the pipeline,” Miller said.
Miller also announced that enrollment system-wide was up by 182 students, most at Campbell County High School.
The next BOE meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 20th at 5:30 pm due to a scheduling conflict with fall break. If the lower courtroom is not available, the meeting will be held in the upstairs courtroom. The workshop will be held on October 6 at 5:30.
It was also announced that the Valley View Fall Carnival is set for September 25th. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/09/2026-6AM)
