Board of Education announces student representatives

CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- This year’s Campbell County Board of Education Student Representatives were recently introduced by Director of Schools Charlotte McCoy, who read a bit about each member. The representative from Jellico High School is Alyssa Brandenburg while Campbell County High School’s representative is Kiren Anderson.

“Alyssa Brandenburg has distinguished herself as an exceptional student-athlete who embodies dedication, determination, and a commitment to excellence. Throughout high school, Alyssa has maintained a strong academic record while completing college-level courses through dual enrollment and continually challenging herself to achieve a high level.

Alyssa has also demonstrated remarkable commitment and perseverance through four years of varsity volleyball. She has successfully balanced the demands of athletics with her academic responsibilities while earning the respect of her classmates and teachers. Alyssa is known for her friendly and positive personality, genuine kindness, and ability to build meaningful relationships with others. She approaches every opportunity with determination and purpose.

Following graduation, Alyssa plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in social work and use her education to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. She looks forward to building a future centered on service, compassion, family, and strong relationships. Her dedication, character, and ambition will serve her well as she represents Jellico High School on the Board.”

Kiren Anderson “is a student at Campbell County High School with a strong interest in government, civic engagement, and public service. Throughout high school, Kiren has become increasingly involved in both school and the Campbell County community, developing a passion for leadership and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Kiren has gained valuable firsthand experience in local governmental and political campaigns. Through an internship with a former mayor, Kiren assisted with activities at the courthouse, early voting, campaign events, and voter outreach. Kiren also spent the summer working on the campaign of Noah Smith, who now serves in the Tennessee General Assembly. During the campaign, Kiren participated in community outreach, knocked on hundreds of doors, and built meaningful relationships with people throughout our area.

Kiren has also been involved in the Culture Coalition, participating in meetings and supporting charitable community events, including helping to organize local marathons.

Academically, Kiren has embraced a rigorous course of study that includes five Advanced Placement courses, three dual-enrollment courses, and two honors courses.

After graduation, Kiren plans to study political science and pursue a future centered on public service, leadership, and strengthening the community.”

Director McCoy concluded by saying how these new student representatives will be a valuable perspective for the BOE, representing “student perspectives and serve as voices for their classmates.”

“This opportunity will allow them to gain a deeper understanding of the decisions that affect our students, educators, schools and community.
