Attempted murder case reset for 2027

JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- An attempted murder case set to go trial this week has been rescheduled. Thomas McCloud will now go to trial in April 2027.

Pretrial publicity generated by McCloud’s attorney appears to have been a reason for the delay.

On Monday, Eighth Judicial District Criminal Court Judge Zack Walden ordered all parties involved in the case refrain from talking about the case until a verdict is rendered.

McCloud was indicted on attempted murder, child abuse/neglect/endangerment and aggravated assault last year.

In June 2025, police were called to State Line Liquor at the 141 exit off I-75 after reports came in that a domestic dispute was in progress, according  to reports.

McCloud had allegedly hit a 45-year-old man with his vehicle, court records said. The injuries required the victim be airlifted to receive care.

These crimes were allegedly committed in front of two children under the age of eight years old.

Along with attempted second-degree murder charges, McCloud, 42, 135 Habersham Road, was indicted on aggravated assault and two counts of child abuse/ neglect/ endangerment for child 8 years of age or less with no injuries. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 9/03/2026 -6AM)
