Election of commission chairman, vice-chairman set for next week

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The County Commission held a workshop on Monday evening. At the beginning of the meeting, current commission chairman Johnny Bruce said that next Monday, the commission would be voting on chairman and vice-chairman for the board. The commission will also be voting to approve committee placements.

At Monday’s workshop, commissioner broke up into groups to get together on establishing placements for the various commission committees.

Other business that will be voted on next week includes an interlocal agreement between the county and ETHRA.

Newly elected County Mayor Jimmy Jeffries brought this up at Monday’s workshop. “They use it to pay for training and fuel for the folks when they come in to get jobs, The previous commission voted on it in July, but it has to be voted on again because it is a new commission,” Jeffries said. He also said that it will be at no cost to the commission.

In other business, a contract with CINTAS is on the agenda for approval.

Also at Monday’s workshop, it was suggested that commission member Ray Perry be chosen to be the point of contact with the organization that distributes the Opioid Abatement Fund and to speak for the commission.

The recognition of the late Sam Farris will also be on next week’s agenda.

Jeffries said he would be attending a workshop at the City of LaFollette on the Sept. 28 to discuss a water line project at Big Fork with them, “because that project is just lying there right now.”

Commissioner Rusty Orick said the reason that they did that was to look at the financial part.

“My understanding is that it is a 100-percent grant from OSM,” Jeffries said. Several commission members said they will attend this workshop as well. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/15/2026-6AM)
