Jeffries hits ground running in first week as county mayor

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Last Tuesday morning, Jimmy Jeffries walked into the courthouse to begin his four-year term as Mayor of Campbell County. “I tried to hit the ground running,” said Jeffries when asked about his first week in office.

During his first week as mayor, Jeffries attended several meetings with local businesses about development. He also attended the East Tennessee Economic Council meeting at Oak Ridge where he introduced himself and spoke about how Campbell County will be focusing on business and industrial recruitment as well as infrastructure upgrades. Jeffries said he was “happy to be invited to a meeting of that level”.

Another significant event in his first week was a meeting with officials from the Town of Caryville and United Rare Earths.

When asked about his staff, Jeffries reported that Keisha Howard had stayed on staff with him. He has an administrative assistant position open. However, Jeffries stated that position would be filled within two weeks. Also vacant is the position of vice mayor. Jeffries said he felt choosing his vice mayor was one of the most important decisions he will make in the office. He told WLAF News that he has possible candidates for the position.
