Caryville leaders deny paving proposal

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- At Monday night’s monthly meeting of the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen, the board voted for technology upgrades to the office. Shafer Tech will be upgrading the equipment for $9,204.91.

The next item discussed was an update on the Veterans Memorial. The money has been raised for the memorial, which is slated to be placed near the park, however, a permit will need to be issued before any work can begin since the land belongs to TVA. Alderman Josh Monday was appointed to talk with TVA about the possibility of amending the permit that was issued for the park. Another item pointed out during the discussion was who would be taking care of the memorial. The board agreed that was an item that would need to be discussed further.

Construction on phase two of the Caryville Cares Playground continues to move forward. A rainy summer caused the project to get behind. However, Monday reported that the park could be finished by the middle to the end of next month.

Under new business, the fire department was approved to purchase two tri-band handheld radios at a cost of $5,463 each for a total of $10,926. The police department was approved to purchase a radar unit from Kustom Signals, Inc for $1,894.63.

The final item discussed was a paving proposal from Hwy 63 to the Jacksboro city limit sign for $59,520. This would only be for two tenths of a mile that the town owns. The board denied proposal. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/15/2026-6AM)
