Kitts is God and Country through and through

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Not having a JROTC program at Campbell County High School yet did not deter Steve Kitts from joining the US Army while still in school. “I joined when I was a junior and went to basic training the summer before I was a senior. The summer after I graduated is when I had my specialized training,” said Kitts.

Kitts, a nearly 25-year veteran, attended Sunday’s “We Will Never Forget” ceremony Sunday morning at the La Follette Church of God. “This year marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks, and we honored the heroes who ran in when others ran out,” said Pastor Michael Dent.

“They (La Follette Church of God) stand up for America. I’m glad everyone in our country can freely worship God,” said Kitts, who regularly attends the La Follette Church of God.

Kitts was with the National Guard based out of the armory at Jacksboro on the day of the 9/11 attacks. He served from 1985 through 2009 and was deployed to war twice to the Middle East during the Iraq war, 2004-2005 and again from 2006 to 2007.

It was1985 when 17-year- old Steve Kitts joined the US Army. He is a 1986 graduate of Campbell County High School. These days he handles security, part-time, for Roane State Community College.
